Teacher and two young students are celebrating the 112th Northern Navajo Fair

Sanostee Day School recently celebrated the 112th Northern Navajo Fair. For generations, the Navajo people of the Four Corners have gathered here to celebrate the harvest, honor their traditions, and reconnect as a community. Against the backdrop of Shiprock Peak, the fair comes alive with vibrant parades, rodeos, traditional songs, dances, and the spirit of a people proud of their heritage.

This year, the students enjoyed a day on Thursday for Youth Day. They enjoyed going through the exhibit hall and seeing the Sanostee Day School booth and the arts and crafts they made that featured their clanship tree, rug weaving and other traditional/cultural arts and crafts. In the afternoon, they enjoyed watching the songs and dancing at the elderfest and the powwow.

On Saturday morning, two students, Miss Sanostee Day School, Alexis, and Mr. Sansotee Day School, Jaylin, and their families participated in the fair’s parade. They rode the school float, which was created by the school staff and the families of the royalty.
